Fuel prices in Bangladesh are administered, not market-set: the Energy & Mineral Resources Division fixes the per-litre retail price of each fuel by official notice, and that price holds nationwide until the next notice. Since 2024 a monthly automatic pricing formula adjusts the schedule in line with international oil prices and the taka.

The diesel rate is the one to watch — it powers freight, buses and irrigation pumps, so a diesel revision feeds into food prices and the wider inflation print within weeks. Octane and petrol move private transport costs; kerosene still matters for rural lighting and cooking.
